A GS430 owner who wants more control than a basic coilover kit should look at the Kontrol Plus 2-Way for the 1998 to 2005 model (JZS161). These assembled coilovers run 18.6 kg/mm up front and 9.8 kg/mm in the rear, a firmer and more deliberate feel than the Kontrol Pro.
What the two-way design adds is independent control over damping and gas. Thirty-six damping levels sit on top of each damper, 24 nitrogen levels sit at the reservoir base, and the external reservoir brings the total to 864 possible settings. Keep it soft for commuting, or move to the firmer end when the car goes to a road course or a show where the stance has to look right.
Stiffer damping and springs change how the car settles, so budget for a professional alignment and check that every collar is locked. On MacPherson fronts the pillowball mounts with camber adjustment give you room to fine-tune alignment. Installation
Set ride height with the adjustable lower mount where the application has one; use the spring perch only where the application-specific layout has no adjustable lower mount. Lock every collar with both spanner wrenches. Start damping 18 clicks counterclockwise from full stiff and adjust from there. Professional setup and alignment are required after installation; on MacPherson fronts, establish baseline camber at the elongated lower-mount hole before fine adjustment at the upper plate.
