Asphalt Rally Spec AR coilovers fit the 1984 Volkswagen Jetta MK2. Front springs are rated 8.7 kg/mm and rear springs 6.7 kg/mm, and the four assembled coilovers are sprung and valved for this application. The AR build lengthens the stroke and fits an inverted 55 mm shock on MacPherson applications.
Damping is 36 levels that act on compression and rebound at the same time, with per-application rates chosen to keep the car stable on uneven roads. Inverted shocks move the gas and oil chamber away from the knuckle and brakes, cutting heat transfer and unsprung weight. The 55 mm bodies add oil capacity and cooling under sustained loads.
Strengthened steel lower mounts are standard on MacPherson applications, and wishbone or multi-link cars use the standard aluminum mounts instead. Installation
Set ride height with the adjustable lower mount where the application has one; use the spring perch only where the application-specific layout has no adjustable lower mount. Lock every collar with both spanner wrenches. Start damping 18 clicks counterclockwise from full stiff and adjust from there. Professional setup and alignment are required after installation; on MacPherson fronts, establish baseline camber at the elongated lower-mount hole before fine adjustment at the upper plate.
