The first-generation Mini Cooper S, specifically the 2002 to 2006 R53, has such a short wheelbase that suspension changes show up immediately. CBM072-AR brings Asphalt Rally Spec AR to it, with front springs rated 9 kg/mm and rear springs 8.5 kg/mm.
A near-matched spring pair suits the car's balance, and the inverted dampers with 55 mm bodies carry extra oil for cooling when the road stays twisty. An extended stroke gives the suspension more room, while strengthened steel lower mounts and hardened rubber pillowball tops fight flex under load. Choose the damping from 36 settings, and adjust the ride height at the lower mount so you do not give up shock travel.
The package contains four assembled coilovers, knobs and spanner wrenches. The compatibility list names the 2002 to 2006 Cooper (R50, hardtop), the 2001 Cooper and the 2001 Cooper S, so check carefully which one you own with the year/make/model checker. Installation
Set ride height with the adjustable lower mount where the application has one; use the spring perch only where the application-specific layout has no adjustable lower mount. Lock every collar with both spanner wrenches. Start damping 18 clicks counterclockwise from full stiff and adjust from there. Professional setup and alignment are required after installation; on MacPherson fronts, establish baseline camber at the elongated lower-mount hole before fine adjustment at the upper plate.
