Product details
Gravel Rally Spec is the kit for a Protege that spends time on bad surfaces. On the 1999 to 2003 Mazda Protege it uses 6 kg/mm front and 5 kg/mm rear springs, with the lengthened stroke and 250 to 270 mm spring length that define the GR line. The page notes that height range varies per vehicle and does not exceed OE ride height, so this is about travel and control rather than stance.
Several parts are built for repeated hits. Strengthened steel lower mounts are standard on MacPherson applications, and GR kits use hardened-rubber pillowball top mounts to absorb impacts from loose surfaces. The inverted-shock approach and large 55 mm bodies add oil capacity and cooling, according to the page. Compression and rebound are adjusted together across 36 levels, using one knob per damper.
You receive four assembled coilovers, upper mounts, damping knobs and spanner wrenches. Set height at the adjustable lower mount, lock each collar with both wrenches, and start 18 clicks counterclockwise from full stiff. The Mazda 323 for 1999 to 2003 is also listed; verify with the year, make and model checker.
Supported features
Gravel Rally springs range from 250 mm to 270 mm with extended cylinder length and piston stroke, greatly improving handling over uneven and bumpy roads. Height range varies per vehicle and does not exceed OE ride height.
Asphalt Rally uses inverted shocks on many MacPherson applications, moving the gas/oil chamber away from the knuckle and brakes to reduce heat transfer and unsprung weight.
Strengthened steel lower mounts are standard on MacPherson applications; Gravel Rally adds heavy-duty steel upper mounts on most applications. Wishbone and multi-link applications use the standard aluminum mounts.
Gravel Rally kits use unique hardened-rubber pillowball top mounts on MacPherson applications to absorb repeated impacts from loose surfaces.
Simultaneous compression and rebound adjustment across 36 levels, with carefully selected per-application spring rates and damping to stabilize the car over uneven roads.
Inverted applications use 55 mm bodies for added oil capacity and cooling under sustained stage loads.

Installation
Set ride height with the adjustable lower mount where the application has one; use the spring perch only where the application-specific layout has no adjustable lower mount. Lock every collar with both spanner wrenches. Start damping 18 clicks counterclockwise from full stiff and adjust from there. Professional setup and alignment are required after installation; on MacPherson fronts, establish baseline camber at the elongated lower-mount hole before fine adjustment at the upper plate.
