Product details
For the 1988 to 1992 Mazda MX-6, replacement coilovers are about reviving a car that deserves attention. CFD040-KP from the Kontrol Pro series makes that practical with springs rated at 7.2 kg/mm in front and 4.5 kg/mm in the rear.
With a lower rate at the rear than at the front, the 36 damping levels give you a way to shape the response. Soft is comfortable around town; stiffer is for pushing on. Ride height can be changed at the lower mount while preserving damper stroke, and the pillowball upper mount adds camber adjustment. Inside the monotube damper, oil and gas stay separated, which helps it handle heat.
The shipment has four assembled coilovers, upper mounts, knobs and spanner wrenches, and the dampers are rebuildable. The same part number is listed for the 1989 to 1992 Ford Probe. A professional install and alignment are required, and the year/make/model checker should be used to verify fitment on your car before you order.
Supported features
Every KSport coilover offers 36 levels of damping adjustment. Set full soft for comfortable daily driving, or firm up the compression and rebound for the track.
Applications with a pillowball upper mount often include camber adjustment — useful for dialing in alignment after lowering, and it removes the need for a separate camber kit.
Applications for MacPherson-strut suspension typically use a pillowball upper mount. The bearing design resists the noise common to other coilovers, and steering feel and response improve.
Most Kontrol Pro applications adjust ride height independently of shock and spring travel, so you can set your stance without risking bottoming out the shock.
Oil and gas stay separated within the cylinder. Compared with twin-tube construction, a monotube design dissipates heat faster and more evenly, allows finer damping adjustment, and resists aeration and cavitation.
Mounts, collars, and spring perches are machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum for a lightweight, durable, corrosion-resistant build. Steel shock bodies are zinc-plated for added protection from corrosion.
A dust boot is standard on every Kontrol Pro coilover to protect the damper seal, with the bump stop integrated inside it — more efficient, and less prone to crumbling than a separate bump stop.

Installation
Set ride height with the adjustable lower mount where the application has one; use the spring perch only where the application-specific layout has no adjustable lower mount. Lock every collar with both spanner wrenches. Start damping 18 clicks counterclockwise from full stiff and adjust from there. Professional setup and alignment are required after installation; on MacPherson fronts, establish baseline camber at the elongated lower-mount hole before fine adjustment at the upper plate.
