Product details

Asphalt Rally Spec AR (CFD040-AR) is the coilover for the 1988-1992 Mazda MX-6, the approved application. The springs are rated 9.8 kg/mm front and 7.2 kg/mm rear, and the AR build uses an extended stroke with an inverted 55 mm shock on MacPherson applications. Four assembled coilovers arrive sprung and valved for this car.

Inverted shock design moves the gas and oil chamber away from the knuckle and brakes, which helps reduce heat transfer and unsprung weight. The 55 mm body adds oil capacity and cooling under sustained hard use. Damping runs 36 levels on one knob per damper, with compression and rebound adjusted together.

Ride height is set on the adjustable lower mount, which keeps full shock travel while lowering, and where there is no lower mount the spring perch takes over. Pillowball upper mounts with camber adjustment sit on MacPherson fronts. The Ford Probe from 1989 to 1992 is also listed, so confirm the model with the year/make/model checker before you order.

Supported features
Extended Shock Stroke & Springs

Gravel Rally springs range from 250 mm to 270 mm with extended cylinder length and piston stroke, greatly improving handling over uneven and bumpy roads. Height range varies per vehicle and does not exceed OE ride height.

Inverted Steel Shock Absorber

Asphalt Rally uses inverted shocks on many MacPherson applications, moving the gas/oil chamber away from the knuckle and brakes to reduce heat transfer and unsprung weight.

Heavy-Duty Steel Mounts

Strengthened steel lower mounts are standard on MacPherson applications; Gravel Rally adds heavy-duty steel upper mounts on most applications. Wishbone and multi-link applications use the standard aluminum mounts.

Hardened Rubber Pillowball

Gravel Rally kits use unique hardened-rubber pillowball top mounts on MacPherson applications to absorb repeated impacts from loose surfaces.

36-Way Adjustable Damping

Simultaneous compression and rebound adjustment across 36 levels, with carefully selected per-application spring rates and damping to stabilize the car over uneven roads.

Large 55 mm Shock Bodies

Inverted applications use 55 mm bodies for added oil capacity and cooling under sustained stage loads.

Installation

Set ride height with the adjustable lower mount where the application has one; use the spring perch only where the application-specific layout has no adjustable lower mount. Lock every collar with both spanner wrenches. Start damping 18 clicks counterclockwise from full stiff and adjust from there. Professional setup and alignment are required after installation; on MacPherson fronts, establish baseline camber at the elongated lower-mount hole before fine adjustment at the upper plate.
