Manual control has its fans, and the Basic Airtech system for the 2016 to 2018 Mazda CX-9 (FWD) is the entry point into air suspension in this range. A 5-gallon black steel tank feeds paddle valves that control the front and rear bags, and a dual-needle 200 psi gauge mounted beside the valves keeps pressure on display.
Its simplicity is the point. A single Viair 444C compressor, chosen for reliability and performance, does the pumping, and the page quotes raise times of 4 to 7 seconds for Basic and Deluxe systems, against 2 to 5 seconds for Pro Plus and Executive. Four application-specific struts supply 36 damping levels, set by turning the included knob counterclockwise for softer or clockwise for stiffer.
Bags are sleeve-type or double-bellow depending on the original suspension design, and the adjustable lower mounts allow ride height to be fine-tuned at any pressure, in the way KSport coilovers do.
