Product details

The Asphalt Rally Spec AR coilover set is built for the 1995-1999 BMW M3 E36 and arrives as four assembled units, sprung and valved for this application. Front springs are rated 9.8 kg/mm and rear springs 12.5 kg/mm, so the rear is the firmer end of the pair.

On many MacPherson-strut applications, Asphalt Rally uses an inverted shock with a 55 mm body. Moving the gas and oil chamber away from the knuckle and brakes helps reduce heat transfer and unsprung weight, and the larger body adds oil capacity and cooling under sustained loads. Each damper has one knob for 36 levels of adjustment that changes compression and rebound together.

Strengthened steel lower mounts are standard on MacPherson applications, and ride height is set on the adjustable lower mount where the application has one. Lock every collar with both spanner wrenches, start damping 18 clicks counterclockwise from full stiff, and have a professional complete the alignment. The coilovers are rebuildable, and the M3 is also listed for 1992-1998 BMW 3 Series RWD 323i, 325i and 328i models.

Supported features
Extended Shock Stroke & Springs

Gravel Rally springs range from 250 mm to 270 mm with extended cylinder length and piston stroke, greatly improving handling over uneven and bumpy roads. Height range varies per vehicle and does not exceed OE ride height.

Inverted Steel Shock Absorber

Asphalt Rally uses inverted shocks on many MacPherson applications, moving the gas/oil chamber away from the knuckle and brakes to reduce heat transfer and unsprung weight.

Heavy-Duty Steel Mounts

Strengthened steel lower mounts are standard on MacPherson applications; Gravel Rally adds heavy-duty steel upper mounts on most applications. Wishbone and multi-link applications use the standard aluminum mounts.

Hardened Rubber Pillowball

Gravel Rally kits use unique hardened-rubber pillowball top mounts on MacPherson applications to absorb repeated impacts from loose surfaces.

36-Way Adjustable Damping

Simultaneous compression and rebound adjustment across 36 levels, with carefully selected per-application spring rates and damping to stabilize the car over uneven roads.

Large 55 mm Shock Bodies

Inverted applications use 55 mm bodies for added oil capacity and cooling under sustained stage loads.

Installation

Set ride height with the adjustable lower mount where the application has one; use the spring perch only where the application-specific layout has no adjustable lower mount. Lock every collar with both spanner wrenches. Start damping 18 clicks counterclockwise from full stiff and adjust from there. Professional setup and alignment are required after installation; on MacPherson fronts, establish baseline camber at the elongated lower-mount hole before fine adjustment at the upper plate.
