Part number CBM090-AR puts the Asphalt Rally Spec AR design under the 2006 to 2011 BMW 3 Series, chassis E90/E91, covering the 325i, 328i, 330i, 335i, 335d and 335is sedans. It is a firm, track-minded setup, with springs rated 12 kg/mm at the front and 14 kg/mm at the rear.
Asphalt Rally uses extended-stroke inverted dampers with 55 mm bodies on MacPherson applications. Moving the gas and oil chamber away from the knuckle and brakes reduces heat transfer and unsprung weight, and the larger body holds more oil, which helps under sustained loads. Strengthened steel lower mounts are standard on MacPherson applications. You still get the same 36 levels of damping adjustment, so the car can be calmed down for the street and firmed up when the pavement is smooth and the day is long.
Four assembled coilovers arrive with damping knobs and spanner wrenches, and ride height is set at the adjustable lower mount. The compatibility list also names the 2012 to 2013 3 Series and the 2008 to 2011 1 Series (E82/E88). Installation
Set ride height with the adjustable lower mount where the application has one; use the spring perch only where the application-specific layout has no adjustable lower mount. Lock every collar with both spanner wrenches. Start damping 18 clicks counterclockwise from full stiff and adjust from there. Professional setup and alignment are required after installation; on MacPherson fronts, establish baseline camber at the elongated lower-mount hole before fine adjustment at the upper plate.
