The brand was founded in 1926 as a companion make for General Motors more expensive line Oakland automobiles and quickly surpassed it in populatiry. Pontiac was headquarted in Detroit, Michigan and vehicles were sold in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Though the brand closed it’s doors due to General Motors Chapter 11 Bankruptcy reorganization, there are still several Pontiacs on the road.
